Prep

Imagine the novel concept of planning things out before you do them. Sounds pretty simple doesn't it? I mean, unless you're doing something spontaneously, planning is what separates the animals from the humans. So why do human beings not plan out things that can be planned for? I don't have the answer to that but I have some funny stories exemplifying the skipping of this elementary step in the wonderful world of making TV and FILM.
Throughout this blog I plan to illustrate the idiocy in the idea that we can "fix it in post". When a production person thinks this, a kitten dies. A poor, innocent, really fluffy kitten simply perishes everytime a DP doesn't stop to think about the frame rate compatibilities, or working in multiple formats knowing all along that the show will be Posted and Cut in Final Cut Pro 5.0? It always makes a simple job more....interesting; always makes a 5 day job two weeks of overtime; not planning.
So I've thought for awhile what I'd write in here. It's not really going as well as it sounded in my head. But I'll continue on and see what happens here. Maybe my writing will come right. Maybe it's destined for mediocrity. Maybe no one will ever read these words. And productions will continue to be twice as difficult as they should be.
